to take part in the Christmas per-
the
formance on Dec. 7. By the end of it,
elementary students walked off the stage
feeling proud of themselves, gaining a new
sense of confidence.
Second grader Darlene Kim, like many of her
peers, were most worried about what others would
think of her performance. She said, “I was worried
because my mom might’ve seen my mistake.” Darlene
quickly realized this was not the case because she put
in a lot of hours of practice
Though students felt fearful for their perfor-
mance, after the concert, everyone was smiling and
feeling confident including Ethan An, a third-grader.
Ethan, specifically, mentioned that he practiced a lot
to combat his fears, “I practiced going up and
down the stage. I did it three weeks before
so that my parents could be happy [of my
performance].”

In addition to practicing on stage, students
rehearsed in music class which helped alleviate their
fears.
Akilanth Arunprasath, second-grader, mentioned,
prior to this year he had never played the bells, so he
played them “25 times” before the performance.
“Although the instruments are all different, because
each of us played together, we made good music,”
reflected Akilanth.
Nimrah Mohamed, second-grader, said, “I just did
the ‘A’ sound. It was easy to learn, but scary to
perform.”
Dora Li, third-grader, said, “Ii felt good for a time
because I followed my skills. I learned that I didn’t
make any mistakes. It made me really confident.”
Zio Kim, second-grader, said confidently, “I felt

good that we made good music. I learned
that if we work together, we can become
better and better, and together, we can play
anything we want.”

Over 110 students performed in front of their
family members, teachers, peers, and members of the
local community. Another performance took place on
June 1.
