Cross
With attitude being such a strong emphasis in cross
country, runners learn to endure through physical and
mental hardships.
“You beat your personal record in cross
country by fighting harder with your mind, not
your body,” said Loukas Kang, junior.
James Ahn, junior, said cross country helped him in
a way that was unrelated to sports, “When I first started
cross country, I thought it was just about running. However,
I was able to learn the skill of perseverance and apply it
outside of running.”
James further explained, that pushing past difficulties
helped him replicate that behavior for his academic studies.
“I learned to be happier,” exclaimed Julie Kim, freshman. “Coach Smith really wanted us to be positive so I just
smiled a lot.”
“I found cross country really difficult at first,” said Jenny Kim, freshman. Jenny explained that by pushing herself
mentally and physically she was able to see improvement in
her times after each meet.
Even for top tier runners on the team, running continued to be a challenge. “Cross country is a never ending
challenge,” said Ziho Hwang, Cross Country Co-Captain.
“Every time you complete a goal for yourself, you undertake
a new one. And every single time, you fight for it with the
same intensity that helped achieve your last goal,”
“Regardless of how fast or fit you get, it
doesn’t change the fact that running is tough,
hard, and tiring,” said Seungjun, Cross Country Co-Cap-

want to get better you have to look straight at your goal
and just run for it.”
Mrs. Smith emphasized that cross country is a sport
that can only be rewarding when the runner is always
giving their maximum effort.

Wilson, Jaclyn Kim, Jerome Chang, Daniel Kim, Nick Song, John Chey, and Seungjun Lee huddle to pump up game spirit for their first meet at Chadwick. Boys Varsity and
Girls and Boys open races were held in the meet. 7. Julie Kim talks to a runner from SFS while she waits in the line to receive her time. After the race, runners received a popsicle
stick with a number that correlates to the time recorded by the officials. 8. Kwon Jun Lee, Jaclyn Kim, Adam Bae, Daniel Kim, Ziho Hwang, and Harry start their practice race around the school.
Before the beginning of each practice athletes warmed up and stretched together as a team.
