The goal of this game was to capture the flag from the “tail” of the dragon, who is the last student standing in the line. Mrs. Yuan and Ms. Lyons homeroom won the game twice. Princesses, K-pop stars, and senior citizen Avengers strutted the auditorium walkway in a fresh and hilarious fashion show. Dressed for their respective themes, students and Frontline, had undergone significant preparation for this priceless event. “It is going to be a blast,” senior and Frontline member Victor Jeong remarked. To prepare for the show, students underwent ample preparation. One homeroom used cardboard, paper, glue, capes, and clothes for their costumes. Senior Heather Yang said, “We didn’t waste time. We rehearsed at least three times.” Frontline also prepared avidly for this fashion show. “We brainstormed what might be entertaining or easy to do. We wanted the event to retain the charm of the videos. So we came up with popular themes, such as princesses or viral videos--people love references to pop culture.” During the first day of SEW, Sojin Han and Stephanie Kim participate in the gym activities to earn points for their team. They tried to pop one another’s balloon which is tied around their ankle. The last student remaining earned points for their team. All students participated in the rotation activities which included outdoor games and gym activity. But it turns out that the fashion show wasn’t completely new for GSIS. “We had done [it] a couple years ago. And it was similar in that you were given a theme. But back then you had to dress your teacher up and send them out on the runway. This year we wanted to make it more interactive, so we had everyone participate in the fashion show.” Frontline Advisor Mr. Lozano added, “Kids had gotten kind of sick of videos. So we decided to bring back something different. And we knew a fashion show would work.” And the results were great. Victor mentioned, “We don’t even have to tell them what to do and people always do something ridiculous and funny.” He continued, “We get to see how creative these people can get in embarrassing themselves walking down this stage. They’ll be able to look back and say, ‘Man, what were we thinking?’” 152 Student Life NEW_GSIS Yearbook-USS_Part 4.indd 152 4/17/16 8:17 PM
