TYPE OF FACILITY West Coast Headquarters NEW POSITIONS 5,000 In 2017, the City of Sacramento struck a deal with Fortune 500 health insurer Centene to bring a corporate campus to North Natomas in Sacramento. Construction for the new offices started in October 2018. The City has agreed to pay Centene $9,000 per job for the first 1,500 jobs, provided that the average salary of those jobs is at least $64,079. The City’s investment is capped at $13.5 million. Centene’s headquarters is expected to create a total of 16,326 direct and indirect jobs with annual wages topping $1.1 billion, according to a press release. “This is an historic period for Sacramento because we are going to site the first Fortune 100 company here, with a minimum of 5,000 jobs,” says Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg in a press release. “I will work hard to build on this success. My mission as mayor is to do everything I can to diversify this economy and help create more high-wage jobs. “This expansion in Sacramento will bring thousands of high-paying jobs to the region,” said Barry Broome, GSEC president and CEO. “Mayor Steinberg and the City of Sacramento have shown unprecedented leadership in making this region a competitive market for high-caliber companies like Centene.” NEW FACES IN TOWN US Foods LOCATION McClellan, Calif. TYPE OF FACILITY Distribution Center NEW POSITIONS TBA In October, foodservice distributor US Foods announced a plan to bring a 355,000-square-foot distribution center to McClellan with an estimated $71.6 million investment by the company. “The expansion of the US Foods footprint into Sacramento is an important investment as we continue to serve independent restaurant operators across the region,” said Bernie Orsini, area president for Northern California for US Foods in a press release. “We look forward to the increased capabilities the location will offer as we continue to execute on our ‘Great Food. Made Easy.’ strategy.” Barry Broome, president and CEO of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, said in a statement, “The US Foods expansion is a big win for the entire region.
