GROWMARK Endure 2020 Report - Page 6

Strategic partnerships are a key tactic for GROWMARK to extend its responsibility to environmental stewardship and sustainability. A 2018 Memorandum of Understanding with the Natural Resources and Conservation Service (NRCS) continues to evolve from its pilot in Iowa. FS member cooperatives and our retail divisions gain a working knowledge of conservation practices and resources available to direct farmer customers toward using sustainable actions on their individual farms. Social Environmental 6 GROWMARK financially supports and provides hands-on engagement for a number of initiatives: • Midwest Ag Water Quality Partnership – technical assistance to growers in Iowa. • Trees Forever – hold a seat on their board of directors. • The Fertilizer Institute – support of research on nutrients and water quality. • Upper Scioto River Watershed in Ohio – support acknowledged to American Farmland Trust. • Iowa 4R Plus – engaged to increase farmers’ awareness of the 4R principles. • 4RIL – partner with Illinois Farm Bureau. • Sustainable 4RWI – demonstration of on-farm 4R practices. The Missouri 4R Initiative is an effort led by the Missouri Fertilizer Control Board to improve watershed conditions in Missouri. The program is just beginning in 2020 with GROWMARK/FS System employees serving on the advisory board. The Mid-Atlantic 4R Nutrient Stewardship Association (MA4RA) is a collaboration of agri-businesses, researchers, government agencies, and conservation groups that share an interest in advancing nutrient stewardship in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This regional alliance brings together partners to share progress and identify strategies to reduce nutrient losses to waterways. GROWMARK is an active member of the association and works with the Pennsylvania 4R Alliance (PA4RA) and the Delaware-Maryland 4R Alliance (DM4RA).
