Safety is Our Priority
Safety is even one of BP Singapore’s Five Values: “To uphold stringent health, environmental and safety
standards and practices for the collective benefit of our employees, contractors and the community.”BP
recognises that its activities involve potential hazards, and it has been a primary and continuing policy to
conduct its activities so as to secure the safety and health of its employees and others who may be affected.
Oil demands high standards of safety protocols to prevent accidents. Exercises like the “Mofoam” fire
exercise, which was held jointly with the Singapore Fire Brigade (SFB) on 5 April 1978, were necessary in
testing and evaluating the effectiveness of BP Refinery and the SFB’s “Disaster Plan”. It was also needed to
co-ordinate the efforts and resources of the Refinery and SFB, and familiarise the SFB personnel with the
layout and facilities of BP Refinery. Other than exercises, training such as first-aid training was also carried
out regularly. In 1984, every Tuesday at 6pm for a period of time, an assortment of staff from BP Refinery,
