S
o you want to plant a
tree? Do you need
privacy, shade or just
want a nicer landscape? Or, are
you looking to increase the value
of your home?
Trees are an excellent investment for
homeowners, but it's important to
select the right tree for the right
location. Here are some things to
consider before making your choice.
Location
The first consideration is how
much space the tree has to
grow in. Is it a wide open
backyard, or a narrow area in
your front yard? How tall do
you want the tree to grow?
Also, how many hours of sun
does the area receive during the
day?
Soil
What is the soil like in the area?
Does it stay moist for days after
a rainy spell or is it excessively
dry? While some trees can
tolerate the moisture in a low
lying spot, others will require
adequate drainage to thrive.

make suggestions for challenging
areas.
Maintenance
While some trees require very
little maintenance, others may
require regular attention. Some will
require seasonal pruning, some may
produce ornamental fruit to rake up,
others may require special winter
protection.
