EXILED ATHLETIC COME HOME
After a prolonged planning process, work on the much discussed Scarborough Sports Vil-
lage began in 2016. Occupying the site of the former Weaponness Park & Ride scheme,
the £50 million development includes a swimming pool and fitness suite, a University Tech-
nical College and the Coventry University Scarborough Campus. Most importantly for Scar-
borough Athletic, it also incorporates a permanent new home for Scarborough Athletic in
the shape of a 2,000 capacity stadium.
Though the 2,000 figure sounds modest for a town which once hosted a Football League
club, it is in fact a perfect fit at this stage of Scarborough Athletic's development. The
ground's signature feature, a 250 seater grandstand, is modelled on the stand at Bishop
Auckland's Heritage Park. A well-elevated single tier structure with a cantilever roof, the
uppermost portion of the stand consists of a glass-fronted clubhouse. Built on the side of a
