ECONOMIC OUTLOOK
Probably the closest senior football ground to Canary Wharf, as the crow flies, is one that has just opened, Fisher ' s ST PAUL ' S STADIUM. Although the closest, it is actually on the south side of the Thames, in Salter Road, Rotherhithe, just across the road from the former site of the ground of their forebears, Fisher Athletic. Fisher were formed following Athletic ' s demise in 2009 and have used Dulwich Hamlet ' s Champion Hill ground while they sought a move back to their home area. Although St Paul ' s Stadium is more functional than beautiful, the club have done very well to secure a move to a stadium of their own, and with it their future in senior football.
Fisher play in the Southern Counties East( formerly Kent) League and were able to open their new stadium in the lead up to the 2016 / 17 season. Despite being literally a goal kick away from the old ground, it is possible to miss the new stadium when travelling along Salter Road because, as yet, the exterior consists of bare walls and no club, or other, branding. Once inside the ground is quite basic, but nevertheless, pleasing on the eye as it is surrounded by wooden fencing and mature trees. A prefab seated stand and changing rooms and club buildings are lined up along the near touchline. The only other structure is a small prefabricated terrace unit behind one goal.
