Whenever I am asked how old this magazine is I only have to think of the current age of my daughter. As it was when she was just three weeks old that the Groundtastic editorial team were on hands and knees in my old house folding and stapling the very first issue. The fact that later this year she starts Junior School reinforces that we have now been going for quite a considerable amount of time! Seven years, twenty-eight editions, three League guides and a smattering of other publications and products and we are still going strong. Enclosed with this edition most of you will find a re-subscription form that will cover the next 6 magazines over the next 18 months. There has been a slight increase in the cover price but those that subscribe can enjoy a reduction of 25p per issue. There is also a survey form on which we hope to discover some vital information from you. We will use this information to mould the magazine for the next few years and therefore hope you can find the time to return it. As the 2001-02 season nears its end there are both exciting and sad times ahead on the stadium front. Arsenal's plans for a new stadium at Ashburton Grove seem to have cleared all the major hurdles and we can expect building work to commence in the not too distant future. The downside of course is the loss of Highbury, a classic English football ground, and my personal all-time favourite stadium. Feethams is another stadium that will be sorely missed from the League ranks as resident club Darlington look forward to life in their new 25,000-seat stadium in the town. Not so many tears may be shed for Leicester's Filbert Street as this cramped venue is no longer fit for the top flight. We're still unsure about some of the non-league venues that may or may not disappear during the close season. If it goes, Tooting & Mitcham's Sandy Lane will be a huge loss and the latest in a long line of classic London grounds to be demolished in the last decade. All of the aforementioned grounds will be covered in Groundtastic at some point, but we recommend you visit all whilst there's still time.
