Reviews Club Shop 1912 Olympics. It is constructed from bricks and timber and even has flowerpots on the staircase bannisters. For lovers of the bizarre, South Africa’s Dundee FC will do the trick for it’s only stand is taller than it is wide. One disappointing feature of the video is that Copenhagen’s Idraetsperken Stadion, with it’s wonderful triple tier main stand, appears to have had it’s unusual Michael Jorgensen roof mural painted over with a Nissan advert. Nearer to home Waterford United’s rather bland Sports Centre home and Ramsey AFC’s Ballacloan Stadium on the Isle of Man are also featured. If this video does not give you itchy feet then nothing will. Available from Yore Publications, 12 The Furrows, Harefield, UB9 6AT. GROUNDS FOR OBSESSION? By Adrian Brown 64 pages £4.99 (including postage) Reviewed by Vince Taylor Everybody with an interest in football grounds has a tale to tell about they first become interested in the subject. Wide-eyed childhood visits to local grounds, usually accompanied by a parent, sow the seeds for a lifetime’s absorption in all things football ground connected. No less affected than the rest of us, Adrian Brown has committed his experiences to print, putting out a booklet explaining how it all started and taking us to some of the places his burgeoning obsession has compelled him to visit. As he throws off the shackles of being a Watford supporter, he starts to attend matches at local Isthmian League venues. By now well and truly bitten by the bug, he soon spreads his wings, fetching up at places as diverse as Katowice, Prague, Crete, Pisa, Seville and improbably, Goa in India. A self-published effort, so don’t expect any fancy graphics or indeed illustrations, Adrian Brown has compiled an interesting insight into his, and our, obsession. Edition Two By Steven Penny A Penny for your Sports publication. 132 pages £6.95 Reviewed by Vince Taylor After the success of last year’s inaugural edition, author Steven Penny has put together another guide to non-league football in England’s largest county. Once again the presentation is excellent, with clear easy on the eye graphics printed throughout on glossy paper. The major difference to last season’s guide is the introduction of a photo section featuring action shots of Yorkshire clubs. The club-by-club guide has been extended so that sides down to Central Midlands League and Wearside League level are given at least a page to themselves, with full details including directions, maps, and a useful schematic of each ground. Cup competitions both within and outside the county are comprehensively covered, in addition to which there is a full local league round up. Encouraged by the good reception given to last year’s edition, the author is considering compiling other county guides, with County Durham, Lincolnshire and Norfolk under consideration.
