The stand at headquarters of the Isle of Man Football Association at the Douglas Bowl
Literally next door and separated
only by a small stream, is the
grandly named National Sports
Centre, built again in the early 90’s
on municipal grounds. The 70 yearold brick built pavilion was happily
preserved and incorporated as
changing rooms, its frontage showing a keystone carrying the date of
opening and it contrasts nicely with
the grandstand, which has pleasant
sightlines but which is too far away
from the pitch to give comfortable
viewing. Mercifully it is rarely used
for football and is primarily an athletics track and will be well patronised next year when the Island
