CHANGING SIDES
LONGSIDE, BURNLEY

The natural shape of the land allowed a huge standing area to easily be developed during Burnley‘ s early days at Turf Moor. Sited on the north side of the ground, it could hold thousands of standing spectators and over time became known as the Longside. A massive roof was erected over it in 1954 and it survived all of its peers to become the last of its kind in English football. It finally succumbed in 1995 when it was demolished to make way for a two-tier all-seater replacement.
