Though cricket was eventually phased out following the establishment of the Victory Sports Ground at Newton Road ( incidentally , a temporary ground for Bury Town in 1978 when Ram Meadow became flooded ), this layout remained unaltered until the end , despite much of the old cricket ground on either side of the pavilion being swallowed up by a car park and other non-football buildings .
