After almost folding due to financial problems in 2009 , new ownership saw the club turn the corner with four league titles secured in the East Region Juniors between 2009 and 2018 . The pivotal moment though was the decision in 2018 to apply for membership of the East of Scotland League ( EoSFL ) and in doing so , to move across to the Seniors . After being accepted , Bonnyrigg carried off the EoSFL title in their first season , meaning a further immediate promotion to the Lowland League , just one step from the Scottish League . The success continued and although stymied by two COVID-affected campaigns , the Lowland League title was secured at the end of the 2021 / 22 season . After beating Highland League winners Fraserburgh in a play-off Bonnyrigg then defeated bottom placed SPFL side Cowdenbeath in a final play-off to secure League status for 2022 / 23 .

Once promotion was confirmed , the next challenge for Bonnyrigg was getting New Dundas Park up to standard to host SPFL games . With floodlights only recently being installed , at the end of last season the ground simply consisted of two small areas of covered standing and no seated accommodation .
