BTME 2022
t was the middle of August
I and Ganton Golf Club in North Yorkshire had just finished hosting the English Open Amateur Championship , popularly known as the Brabazon Trophy , but Course Manager Simon Olver was already looking forward to his trip over to Harrogate the following January .
“ I ’ m looking forward to catching up with some friends after a long couple of years , seeing some great education and just having a great few days ,” said the 40-year-old , who moved down to Yorkshire from Whitley Bay near Newcastle in late 2020 .
For Simon , as it will be for more than 5,000 professionals across golf , football , local authorities , schools and anywhere sports turf is maintained , the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition ( BTME ) is a once-a-year opportunity to share stories and strengthen bonds , while taking in some of the world ’ s best education for sports turf managers .
Much has changed since the last BTME , which took place in January 2020 .
After living with the collective strain of the coronavirus pandemic affecting daily life , a return to BTME will provide many turf professionals with a sense of normality that has been missing for two years . Multiple lockdowns followed by an unprecedented boom in popularity for the sport of golf , have meant that for many , personal development and the limitless benefits of networking – all of which add up to a better-maintained sports facility – have been neglected . BTME will be an opportunity to refocus on personal and professional growth .
