Leeds City Council Upgrades Grounds Maintenance Fleet with New Major Roller Mowers
Fifteen MJ71-400 mowers boost efficiency, cut maintenance costs and deliver a cleaner finish across parks, verges and green spaces.
L ike most major city councils, Leeds City Council takes responsibility for the management of significant areas of city parks, green spaces, roundabouts and roadside verges as part of its services commitment to the local community. They have some local school sport contracts and operate totally within the Leeds City boundary. Leeds is the third largest City in England covering an area of just over 43 square miles.
A recent acquisition of fifteen Major MJ71-400 3PL Roller Mowers, offered under tender through their local dealer, GGM of Colne, Lancashire saw the replacement of the council’ s previously installed gang mowers and older Major rotary mowers, purely as a need to update to more efficient operations while replacing older machines that had reached their useful life expectancy.
According to Stephen Whiteside, Workshop Engineering Manager for Leeds City Council,“ We changed out our old machines at around five years because they had reached the end of their lifecycle. We were also looking at reducing maintenance costs to keep the fleet operating with minimal expenditure. When we send out tenders, we review each machine or brand’ s warranty offering, expected delivery time, after-sales service and lifetime expectancy and overall cost. These elements are all percentage weighted, but the biggest deciding factor is cost.”
