How to identify the Wiedenmann Terra Spike for you

ith no fewer than

W ten models in the Wiedenmann Terra Spike range, there is an aerator to suit almost every requirement. But which one is right for you?

The Wiedenmann UK sales team say the starting point comes down to two questions: what do you want to achieve, and what size is your tractor? From there, considerations such as required depth, speed, site size, versatility, and budget usually narrow the choice to one or two models, often demonstrated on site before purchase.
Compaction or Thatch?
Most buyers are dealing with either compaction, thatch, or both. Solid tining is the traditional method for compaction, with problem depths typically between 100 – 300 mm. As Terra Spike machines operate comfortably from 220 mm to 400 mm, most stay in contention. Where thatch is the issue, hollow coring becomes the focus. Since thatch usually sits in the top 50 mm, speed is often prioritised over depth to deliver optimum results.
Tractor Match
Identifying the tractor is essential, as larger aerators demand more horsepower. Wiedenmann’ s lineup covers tractors from around 20 hp to 60 hp, with working widths from 1.4 m to 2.1 m. Importantly, the aerator should be slightly wider than the tractor’ s wheel span to avoid tyres tracking over freshly tined ground. Contractors and estate managers with large areas often start by looking at the wider models.
Model Clues
The Terra Spike name badges hint at each machine’ s specialism:
• XF – extra fast
• XD – extra deep
• XP – extra penetrative
• GXi – designed for greens and fine turf
• SL- small and light
Key Features All models have easy, tool-free controls for depth and heave, and tine changes take less than 15 minutes. By combining different tines, users can achieve soil decompaction and exchange costeffectively with one machine.
An anti-vibration system protects operators, while the consistent hole pattern and clean finish leave no tell-tale signs. Fast, versatile, and capable of working deep below the surface, Terra Spike aerators are trusted across municipal sites, sports pitches and golf courses to deliver effective, effortless aeration.
