Positive green shoots Ongoing research by the GMA is showing positive signs when it comes to workforce development .
Compared to 2022 , the number of grounds staff under the age of 35 is up from 19 % to 27 % in 2024 . Over that same time , there has also been an increase from 3 % to 5 % in the number of grounds managers aged 24 and under .
With their work inspiring young people to get involved , the NextGen team are at the forefront of these green shoots .
Where to catch the NextGen NextGen will be hosting an interactive event at Wimbledon in September , giving schoolchildren the chance to get hands-on experience of the skills and knowledge needed to be a groundsperson – and learn why the job is so important and rewarding .
