GOLF COURSE DESIGN golf advisors throughout the entire project .
GGD provided all golf course design details , including liaison with Club representatives and presenting the concept scheme to Members for approval . On approval at a members meeting in March 2017 , GGD were instructed to submit a planning application to Birmingham City Council . Following permission in September 2017 , GGD prepared detailed designs and tender documents for Jacksons Civils , the Main Contractor . Following a successful competitive tender , John Greasley Golf Course Contractors were appointed to undertake the construction work , which started in January 2018 .
GGD ’ s responsibilities continued throughout the construction and growingin phases including approving and signing off all construction works , certificates for valuations and final / practical completion . We also worked direct for EA ( on behalf of
Handsworth GC ) and oversaw the growing in / establishment of the new holes through to the end of the defects correction period .
Working as part of a large team was a challenge , as so many decision making levels need to be navigated through in order to keep the project moving smoothly , on schedule and to budget . Greasley ’ s undertook the work efficiently and swiftly , although site conditions were extremely challenging at times .
The new holes came into play in 2019 , and the finished result has been welcomed by Handsworth Golf Club members and visitors alike . To have been given the opportunity to design new holes on a course originally designed by Harry Colt was a real honour , and achieving a seamless transition between old and new was daunting , but thoroughly satisfying .
