SOD IN THE GARDEN OF EAT’N
After Selser Schaefer Architects threw a big shindig in downtown Dubuque as an open house to the community, DABG volunteers got
to work lifting the sod off the street and transferring it to the area underneath the arbor in the new Garden of Eat’n. Thank you to the
team headed up by Mike Irvin and Dennis Hoyer who put the muscle into getting the sod moved and in place.
Trip to the DABG
On Tuesday, July 26, a number of

NUCLEAR WAR AND
BRUSSELS SPROUTS
—By Eileen Coursey
I want to ban nuclear war,
Brussels sprouts, hatred,
Liver and onions, kids on drugs,
to visit the DABG. Executive Director,
Sandi Helgerson, led a marvelous tour
of the grounds and facilities. This was
yet another benchmarking exchange
between our two Arboretums – the
fourth in the past year.
PCA is hosting a Grand Opening for the
public of their newly paved and lighted
three mile David Canny Rountree
Branch Trail on Thursday, September
15, at 5 p.m. This $1.67 million project
was made possible by a collaborative
community effort involving three non-
profit leadership groups and the city
of Platteville. Over 1500 people, 500
donors, 37 fundraisers, 30 fund raising
projects, local businesses, students,
residents, and service organizations
were part of this project entitled
“Moving Platteville Outdoors.” Over
40 volunteers met weekly to remove
invasives, plant native plants, trees,
grasses, install benches, fences, kiosks
and landscape around the new light
poles among other things. Work will be
fully completed by August 31.
Suicide, milk of magnesia,
Cancer, child abuse,
Companies who don’t answer
Your letters when you write
About your magazine subscription,
And diarrhea.
Instead, I want more
Love, pink roses, hugging,
Kindness to children,
Happiness, hope,
Fathers who write poems
For their daughters,
Compassion for bag ladies,
Virtue, laughter,
And jelly beans.
Wouldn’t it be a kinder,
Gentler world?
