There is nothing more frustrating than finding a great product, using it, and being disappointed with the results. Through our testing, I discovered that working with Crazy Liberty is slightly different than some of the dyes we are used to working with, therefore, we have composed a list to help you get the best possible results from this product.
1. Wear gloves! This is something we say with any semi-permanent dye. If not, the first 12-15 layers of your epidermis will also absorb the dye. This is in no way harmful to you, but it does mean that it will take 2-3 weeks for the dye to fade from your hands.
2. This product, like all semi-permanent dyes, is made to be used directly from the package … it is not intended to be diluted. All results you see here were completed using the product directly, nothing was diluted.
3. Shake well before opening. I did notice that just as with most semi-permanent dyes, there was some pigment separation during shelf time. The great thing about Crazy Liberty is that the tube container can simply be shaken well unlike dyes in tubs that must be opened and mixed with a spoon if the pigment has begun to separate.
4. Even though the label says apply to a damp coat, your best results will come from applying to a clean, dry coat. Because a damp coat means there is moisture attached to the cuticle of the hairs, this can inhibit dye absorption leading to mottled color that is uneven and possibly even darker in some places than others.
5. Crazy Liberty is a bit thicker than some of the semi-permanent dyes we are accustomed to. Therefore, you need to make extra effort to be sure you work the product down to the skin to avoid finding uncolored pockets of hair when finished. Take your time and work the product through thoroughly.
6. Crazy Liberty needs a minimum of 20 minutes of set time with some colors, however others such as black, need a full 30 minutes of setting time. Otherwise, you will see the under casting of the base color.
7. One thing I discovered that was very different than what I am used to, but I really liked, was the fact that the product semidried while setting. Rather than have a dripping mess on my table, the dye dried a bit in place on the dog helping to keep it in place and not running into unwanted areas. I could apply both the black and yellow to Steve at once which would typically be a risky thing to do as the colors could bleed together either during application, the setting process, or even the rinsing process. Not to mention my table wasn’ t nearly as messy as usual, lol.
8. As with any semi-permanent dye rinse very well until the water runs clear. To ensure there is no dye left on the outer portion of the cuticle that could rub off on furniture, clothing, etc …. follow with a gentle bath after rinsing well.
