While the competitions were exciting, there was plenty of other fun to be had at the show. New this year was the ‘Who’s Your Daddy’ booth where DNA kits offered dog owners information regarding their dog’s genetic heritage. The Knoxville Pet Pantry was also on hand taking donations of cash and/or pet food for pet owners in financial need, and awards such as “cutest pet” and “ugliest pet” gave every animal at the show a chance to be involved. A variety of seminars, including one from the NAPCG, Member Cindy Oliver won first place in Entry Division with "Poodles Were Born to Be Wild" provided groomers with the opportunity to learn about many different aspects of grooming. The NAPCG seminar covered everything from quick add-on ideas to dangerous chemicals that salon owners should be aware of when choosing products and is similar to the seminars being offered at Pet Pro Classic 2010. After speaking with Susan recently, it sounds as if next year will be even bigger and better. The NAPCG will sponsor a unique in-ring creative competition entitled Salon Creative. The concept is to have groomers complete a creative groom practical for pet owners. Any breed is welcomed for this competition, and entries are to have 4 to 6 weeks of growth, the typical schedule for clients. There will be no preset patterns or pre-coloring allowed, as the goal is to complete an exceptional breed profile or pet groom enhanced with color, accessories, and/or creative carving. The creative enhancement is intended to compliment, not distract, from the overall groom. Mark your calendars for May 2011, and join us for some very exciting competitions, lectures, and shopping with some of the industry’s top distributors and manufacturers! Member Sandy Blackburn won second place in the Entry Division with her "Pupweiser Clydesdale Horses"
