is currently farmed by Andrew and Matthew van Lingen, John’ s son and grandson.
Through astute farming and controlled grazing, the three Van Lingen generations have managed to improve the ecosystem greatly.
Andrew says:“ My family came to South Africa in 1770. At first, they were in the Western Cape and later moved to Graaff-Reinet, where they took part in the insurrection to proclaim the area an independent republic. The first guy was a dominee who came to spread the Word.” Nowadays, the Van Lingens farm with Merinos and cattle on Dwarsvlei, while at Temple Farm they produce yellow maize, popcorn, green peas, green beans, lucerne and pasture.
