The soil under the protective netting is prepared for the next planting season.
Having heard about their challenges, Jorgen from Agrimark Mooi River approached Roy to talk about netting.
“ Jorgen came to us, listened to the problem, and helped to make the project viable. He provided the necessary commercial support, and once we refined the figures in our spreadsheet, the project became feasible. They began with a 6 ha block and subsequently added another 6 ha; plans for a third 6 ha block are currently on hold.” According to Roy, the first season under netting came with a hard learning curve.
“ We now know what no adviser could really tell us. We started six weeks late, but Jorgen found a good contractor who put up the structures in a few days. Jorgen even sourced a special clip to secure the netting when hail comes down.”
