Through the past few years, coriander has become a major part of the Hillandale enterprise. When it is ready, it is picked, shaken clean and packed immediately. They plant in September and pick after about six weeks, with the coriander planting season running until the first week of March.
EIGHT YEARS TO SOLVE ONE PROBLEM
The success did not come easily.“ In the early stages, coriander developed a root disease, and it took us eight years to solve that problem. Soil health was the problem and is our solution today. We used all our virgin soils, but as soon as we planted coriander on lands that were previously planted with the same crop, the plants tended to die within three weeks.”
