New German Cinema
New German Cinema is a period in German Cinema that lasted from approximately the late 1960s to the 1980s. This period saw the comeuppance of several new directors, many of whom were inspired by French New Wave Cinema and used this inspiration to produce low-budget films that would gain the attention of art house audiences and eventually, larger film studios. The sucess of these young directors sparked a renaissance in German film and encouraged other directors to begin making quality films as well.
