IZZY TAYLOR, LOUIS SCHILDERS, SOCIAL SECS Louis and I are delighted to be your new Social Secretaries! We are loyal 2nd year members of GCBC and the club has been a constant companion / burden throughout our time at Durham. Having never rowed before, GCBC taught us the way of boat and oar( Louis would like everyone to know that his latest 2km was an impressive(?) 6:54.4). Not only has GCBC been essential to our fitness, but also our now mythical alcohol tolerances. We’ ve had some truly great socials and we hope to continue this trend in the coming terms! Thanks for the votes, see you at the white t-shirt social( coming this Jan).
JACK HODGES, KATE FRENCH, FRESHER CO-ORDINATOR AND WELFARE OFFICER Hi, I’ m Kate and I’ m a third year mathematician at Grey. I came to GCBC in freshers after rowing( very!) leisurely on holiday and I’ m now going to be one of your welfare officers for the next few terms. I also enjoy playing netball for Grey when I have a bit of time in between rowing sessions! Jack is a third year IR student who is passionate about rowing and writing about himself in the third person. Jack, along with Kate, is part of the dynamic duo that are the club’ s fresher co-ordination and welfare officers- the pair seized victory on the basis of unanimous support, and ran a 2016 campaign that has promised to revolutionise what the club defines as co-ordination. All we can say is buckle up because your welfare levels are about to blast through the roof.
TOM FOX, FUNDRAISING AND ALUMNI SECRETARY Hi, I’ m Tom and I am also a third year chemist. Self-described as having a‘ dedicated and mildly obsessive’ rowing personality, and former Men’ s Captain( 2015-6). Having learnt that my previous position was a 24 / 7 requirement, I endeavour to take the same attitude into this new role and have an ambitious aim of raising £ 10,000 for the club. I have already began to organise an‘ auction of promises’ fundraiser to be held later this year and will draw upon my previous experience of raising money for the club from my 24 hour rowing challenge in 2015. Excited for the new year!
CALLUM STEWART, KIT AND CLOTHING OFFICER Hi, I’ m Callum and I am the Kit Officer for the Boat Club. I’ m a second year economist and started rowing at the beginning of last year. Since taking on my position, we have set up a couple of orders with Godfrey Rowing and now have a strong partnership with Powerhouse for our All-in-Ones, ensuring that the club is smart and equipped for all matters boating and otherwise. Blazers still in the pipeline.
JAMES PENROSE, OLI QUITMANN, WILL HAMLYN, MEN’ S DEVELOPMENT CAPTAINS We are the Men’ s Dev. Squad captains and are responsible for coaching the newest members of the GCBC team, more affectionately known as‘ Fresh Meat’. Over the coming two terms we will be helping the fresher men integrate into the Senior Men’ s Squad and the greater GCBC community not only in terms of rowing, but also on a social level. Last year Oli and myself( Will) were members of the Dev. Squad and are now members of the Senior Men’ s Squad. We attribute much of our success to the great coaching we received under James last year, and we welcome his continuation of the role and an opportunity to coach alongside him. The three of us are keen, enthusiastic members of the club. We are privileged to have the opportunity to instill the same enthusiasm and passion to our new members.
