PETER ASTON, MEN’ S CAPTAIN Hi, I’ m Peter, I am a second year Physics and Chemistry student who joined the senior squad at the start of first year. I rowed before I came to Durham at North Staffs Rowing Club based on Rudyard lake in the Staffordshire Moorlands. My primary aim as Men’ s Captain is to maintain our upward trend and to become the best college men’ s squad in Durham!
ELLEN LOCKSTONE, WOMEN’ S CAPTAIN Hey, my name is Ellen and I am also a 3rd year chemist; normally found in the chem cafe. An ex scummy-sculler who is occasionally described as‘ somewhat competitive’. My role is to oversee the training of the women at Grey. This is my 2nd consecutive year as Women’ s Captain and I wish to continue building upon the vast improvements we have made over the past year in 2017. So far we have had a successful head season with some wins at local races. Looking forward, I plan to enter a 1st VIII in WEHORR in March and get some wins for our novice women at some more local head races this term! I hope to see great progress seeing as Grey is the only college in Durham to have equipment specifically for women.
AMY CARTER, CAPTAIN OF COXES Hi, I’ m Amy and I am a third year law student and the Coxes Captain for the rest of the academic year. Having learnt to row with GCBC, I thought I’ d also give coxing a go, after two years of doing both I have( finally) decided to become a full-time cox. My aim is to create a training programme for coxes and to help progression from 4’ s to 8’ s. By the end of my term as Coxes Captain I would like there to be as much emphasis on coxing development as rowing development. If you fancy giving coxing a go, just give me a shout! The new year is looking pretty good, roll on 2017!
MATTHEW PROCTOR, TREASURER I am a second year student reading Economics with Management at Grey. I have been involved with GCBC since joining Durham University, and assumed the role of treasurer in December 2016. I am also involved in Durham University Finance Society as Fund Manager, and Durham Economics Society as Treasurer. I aspire to a career in financial services.
JIM ALLAN, BOATMAN My name is Jim and I am the GCBC Boatman. Before coming to Durham, I rowed at an elite level for several years as a junior, before taking a few more out of formal education to become an accredited rowing coach, as well as doing some voluntary work with Thames RC in London. I am a second year studying Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity. My job at GCBC primarily involves fixing and maintaining the fleet, blades and ergs. I occasionally draw upon my previous experiences to help out with coaching too- including aiding the squad captains with training documents and preparing relevant resources in areas such as physiology.
