Hunt County Children’ s Advocacy Center, similar to others across the country, is a child-focused program in which representatives from a range of disciplines meet to discuss and make decisions about investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. The organization also works to prevent the further victimization of children.

Here is a breakdown of the impact that the Children’ s Advocacy Center has in the community:
Summary of Basic Role
Children’ s advocacy centers provide a safe, supportive and child-friendly environment where children who have experienced abuse or trauma can receive comprehensive care. The centers bring together professionals from law enforcement, child protective services, medical professionals and mental health specialists to provide a coordinated response. Children’ s advocacy centers offer forensic interviews, counseling and support to help children heal while ensuring their safety and seeking justice.
Impact Within Hunt County – Since 2000, Hunt County Children’ s Advocacy Center and the Crisis Center of Northeast Texas have impacted the lives of more than 25,000 people.
– In recent years, Hunt County Children’ s Advocacy Center has seen annual case loads of about 700 kids.
Programs and Community Education
In addition to directly helping children in crisis, Hunt County Children’ s Advocacy Center offers several workshops and presentations that schools and community organizations can book. Designed for age groups spanning from kindergarten to college students, the programs cover topics ranging from body boundaries to internet safety to human trafficking.
What’ s New?
In addition to its regular programming, Hunt County Children’ s Advocacy Center recently launched its monthly“ Coffee and Chat” sessions. Each meetup is an informal discussion over coffee at a different business in Hunt County, where community members can ask questions about how they can help fight child abuse. Those interested in attending a coffee and chat session are encouraged to follow Hunt County Children’ s Advocacy Center’ s Facebook page to see posts on times and locations for each session.
“ We wanted a safe and neutral environment, not only for survivors( of abuse) to come and chat with us, but also people from the overall community to come and learn more about what we do without any sort of intimidating or overwhelming experience,” sexual assault program director Maci Torres said of the coffee and chat sessions.
