Taking on the winter doldrums

I

’ ve always thought that winter ’ s short days and long hours of darkness can do a number on the human psyche . The professionals call it seasonal affective disorder , a condition that saps people of energy and can make folks crabby and moody and even depressed . Most of us just call it the “ winter blues .”
Thankfully , those blues generally don ’ t last the entire year , not with the north Texas spring just around the corner and summer right behind . Still , we believe that during this time of artificial light and indoor living , it ’ s important that people pay attention to their physical and emotional wellbeing . With that thought in mind , we bring you the Winter 2023 edition of Greenville Life – an edition that places a special emphasis on wellness .
Perhaps you ’ ll find inspiration in David Claybourn ’ s article on Dennisha Denney and her commitment to a healthy diet and fitness as she closes in on two straight years of running each and every day .
FROM THE EDITOR
Hank Murphy
We ’ ve also included tips about nutrition , healthy recipes , physical fitness , emotional wellbeing , medical checkups and even ways to declutter your surroundings .
And , of course , we ’ ve also included in this edition stories about people and places in and around Greenville .
Travis Hairgrove spins the tale of the Beatnik Bandits , an up-and-coming musical band that includes two musicians from Commerce .
Brad Kellar takes us to “ A Home for Angels ” in Caddo Mills , a place that takes in unwanted animals and operates a petting zoo filled with both barnyard and exotic creatures .
Claybourn tells the story of Nu Dang Pho of Greenville , an Asian restaurant run by former Laotian refugee Outhay “ Ty ” Thonginh and his wife Rebekah .
We hope you find the contents in this edition of Greenville Life informative , entertaining and compelling , and a good way to help shake “ the winter blues .”
