Dennisha Denney never misses a day
Some athletes have had some remarkable streaks .
Like baseball great Joe DiMaggio , who pounded one or more hits in 56 straight baseball games in 1941 .
Or NASCAR driver Richard Petty , who won at least one stock car race in 18 seasons from 1960-1977 .
Or the Oklahoma Sooners , who won 47 straight college football games from 1953- 1957 .
Greenville resident Dennisha Denney has her own streak going . She ’ s run for more than 700 straight days , dating back to Feb . 7 , 2021 .
“ The running streak is you
“ have to run one mile a day before bed ,” said Denney . “ I have run at all hours and that ’ s the minimum I have to run .”
Rain or shine , snow or blistering heat , in sickness and in good health , Denney has run at least one mile every single day . Or night . Without be here . missing a single workout .
“ I have run at all hours ,” she said . “ I generally prefer between 9 p . m . and midnight .” Denney ’ s not out to set any records . “ I don ’ t worry about time ,” she said . “ My goal is to always finish .” Her favorite place to run is near her residence , which is close to Club
Lake , where she can usually watch a scenic sunset .
But she ’ s also run when on family or business trips in Amarillo , Lubbock , Austin and Fredericksburg in Texas , plus in New Mexico , Florida , California and New York City . She ’ s also run Cozumel , Mexico and at St . Thomas in the Virgin Islands .
One recent memorable run was with officers from the Hunt County Sheriff ’ s Academy around the track at Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium in Commerce . The field is named for the late Hawkins , longtime football coach at East Texas State , who was the grandfather of Denney ’ s husband , Daken .
“ I got a lump in my throat ,” she said . “ Grandad would be so proud of me .”
“ I definitely have family support ,” she said .
I hope that I am inspiring them to be healthy . They ( the whole family ) are a big part of why I do this , so I can have a long healthy life , for as long as God allows me to
