The

Cowboy Way Celebrating 65 Years of Rodeo in Wolfe City

All summer long on any given weekend, some small town in Texas somewhere is hosting a rodeo. Wolfe City in far north Hunt County celebrated its 65th year of the annual Wolfe City Riding Club Rodeo at the beginning of August. At both Friday and Saturday evenings’ performances, the stands were packed with fans.

Equated with the circus coming to town, a rodeo is anything but. Sure, the stock company and its wranglers show up, backed by a scattered entourage of support personnel like bookkeepers, judges, sound men, announcers and yes, clowns( although many now prefer the term bullfighters). Add these professionals to the scores of Wolfe City Saddle Club volunteers who manage the ticket sales, organize the vendors, man the concession stands and get the word out and club president Ross McDaniel’ s words come to mind,“ There is always a lot to do to make this happen.”
