Al and Denisa Atkins were married in 2012 , the same year they arrived in Greenville . Al is a former member of the Greenville City Council and is retired from American Airlines . Denisa works at L3Harris as operations manager for the software engineering department . Greenville Life sat down with them and asked them a few questions .
Between the two of you , who is the better cook ? Denisa : That would be me . Al : That would be her . I handle the grill and she handles everything else .
Who has more fashion sense ?
Denisa : I ’ ve never been accused of being fashionable , but when it comes to matching colors , I think I ’ m better . So I ’ d have to go with me .
Al : I would agree ; it ’ s my wife . Growing up in Florida , I could be in cutoffs , a T-shirt and flip flops and it would be formal wear .
Who is the better singer ? Denisa : That ’ s going to be him . He has a much better voice , from his radio days . He ’ s got this deep , beautiful voice . That ’ s going to be him .
Al : No . Definitely you . I think it ’ s her .
What is the most charming thing about your spouse ?
Denisa : I love so many things about him , but honestly the thing that most attracted me to him initially and still does is his ambition . He always wants to make stuff better . He ’ s never content to leave things be , he always wants to make things better . He doesn ’ t idle well . He ’ s always got to have a project .
Al : Her personality and her intelligence and her drive . She ’ s also very attractive . You ’ re everything I could possibly hope for in a companion . it that my mother is laughing and looking down at me just enjoying all the times I told her I don ’ t want to live in a small town . I really enjoy how nice everyone is .
Al : The small-town feel and the graciousness of the people . They are genuinely friendly . … It ’ s a great place to live .
What is one thing the other will not eat ? Denisa : Broccoli . Al : McDonald ’ s .
What does your spouse enjoy reading ? Denisa : Mostly the newspaper . He reads multiple newspapers . Al : Her iPhone .
What is your favorite thing about Greenville ?
Denisa : The homey feel . I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma hating small town life because I was literally related to almost everyone in the town . My mother had a big family , and I grew up telling my parents that when I graduate , I ’ m going to get out of here and move to the big city and you guys will see me at Christmas . I was pretty adamant about it . I know now after coming here and loving
