Q & A LIFE D WORDS BY TRAVIS HAIRGROVE

Q:

– What do you look forward to in the spring?
Byron Taylor: Personally, I look forward to the Hunt County Festival of the Arts. I enjoy going to as many art festivals as I am able, but it’ s so nice that we have one in our own town.
Laura Irrgang: With everything turning that gorgeous spring green color, it’ s a great time for a scenic drive. Going on a wildflower adventure is so quintessentially Texan, isn’ t it? Don’ t forget your sunglasses! We also have several top-notch arboretums and botanical gardens you can get to easily on a weekend.

Q:

– What is something that you consider to be a sign that“ spring is here?”
BT: The budding of the trees. The moment I see the little leaves forming on the tips of the trees, I get excited that the 60-80 degree weather is soon on its way.
LI: Butterflies! When I see butterflies flitting by, I know it’ s spring. And of course … wildflowers. Bluebonnets were my Memaw’ s favorite and I always think of her when they start popping up. I’ m also partial to Indian Paintbrushes and Evening Primroses.

Q:

– What’ s a favorite activity of yours that spring is especially well-suited for?
BT: Walking the dogs. I like the great work our parks and recreation department has been doing in our parks lately. There are now multiple dog parks & walking trails to choose from.
LI: I love reading any time of year but cracking a book outside is a special treat. Spring puts me in a growth mindset, so I choose at least one book per season to help me move forward in a positive way and learn something new. I like to spread a blanket out under shade trees, bring a snack and read while listening to the birds.

Q: Q:

– Do you have any special spring traditions or customs?
BT: I like to go to outdoor gettogethers with our friends and enjoy the camaraderie.
LI: It’ s really fun to get out lighter clothes in spring fabrics and colors. A new palette of pastels and florals and lighthearted patterns always makes me feel“ springier.” I lean toward aquas and pinks and yellows, and polka dots are a personal favorite. I also like changing out my perfume to a lighter scent for

the season. Florals, fresh air vibes and green notes work so well this time of
year.

Q:

– What are some of your favorite things to do outdoors in the spring?
BT: Listening to music in our backyard, while hanging out on our porch swing. Also, I like topping off the spring plants in our gardens that the winter has destroyed.
LI: I try to take a walk every day if I can, even if it’ s short. Throw in a picnic basket and a lounging blanket to eat lunch outside and you’ re golden. It’ s also a great time of year to hit garage sales and estate sales. A road trip to Canton in the spring is hard to beat.
– What are some of your favorite spring foods?
BT: Burgers, chicken salad and deviled eggs. I get our eggs fresh from a local farm owned by friends.
LI: I love a spring veggie tray with dips. Extra happy points if the baby veggies are still attached to their greens, like radishes and carrots. They taste less like a salad and more like a treat if you serve them with a triple creme cheese and creamy dips like hummus.
