SETTING down the GAVEL Thomas preparing to retire after four decades as prosecutor and judge One of the longest-serving and most distinguished judicial officials in Hunt County history is scheduled to hang up his robe and gavel for a final time at the end of this year. F. Duncan Thomas, who currently serves as the judge of the Hunt County Court At Law No. 2, will be retiring after a legal career that has spanned more than four decades. “I have been blessed and I am grateful to have been allowed the serve the people of Hunt County, first as a district attorney and currently as a judge,” Thomas said. Thomas has also helped support several other prominent members of the county’s legal profession find their places. “For a lot of us, we don’t know of a courthouse without him,” said current Hunt District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr., who served as Thomas’ Assistant District Attorney. Thomas graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1976, but had no luck getting hired as most of the firms he applied to were small or run by solo attorneys. SPRING 2020 Greenville Life 25
