Thomas preparing to retire after four
decades as prosecutor and judge
One of the longest-serving and most distinguished
judicial officials in Hunt County history is scheduled to
hang up his robe and gavel for a final time at the end of
F. Duncan Thomas, who currently serves as the judge of the
Hunt County Court At Law No. 2, will be retiring after a legal
career that has spanned more than four decades.
“I have been blessed and I am grateful to have been allowed
the serve the people of Hunt County, first as a district attorney
and currently as a judge,” Thomas said.
Thomas has also helped support several other prominent
members of the county’s legal profession find their places.
“For a lot of us, we don’t know of a courthouse without
him,” said current Hunt District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr.,
who served as Thomas’ Assistant District Attorney.
Thomas graduated from the University of Texas Law School
in 1976, but had no luck getting hired as most of the firms he
applied to were small or run by solo attorneys.
