Holiday hazards: what to avoid Some favorite holiday foods are dangerous for pets. Chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions and anything sweetened with xylitol can be toxic. Fatty meats, bones and leftover trimmings can also cause stomach issues or worse. When guests are around, keep an eye on unattended plates and garbage cans – curious noses tend to find trouble.
