Main Street Director Paula Morris and her baby Kayce chat with Janet Nichols .
Nine-month-old Tucker Tyree is captivated by a snowflake display .
“ The holidays is what makes your small business ,” says Mohler . “ The holidays can make or break your whole next year , so you really want to be known as the place people come to for their gifts for Christmas , and unique gifts – not just something you can get anywhere .”
Mohler has spent the past 10 years in Royse City and is closing in on one year in business at Thymeless . “ I ’ ve always been into home décor and I love to decorate for people . There were tons of clothing boutiques down here but there was no place to get your home décor . And with all the influx of people moving in , that was a need the city had ,” she says when asked her about her motivation for starting a gift store .
“ The first year was fantastic ,” she notes , and she ’ s eager to tackle year two . “ And hopefully a third and a fourth and all the way up to where she ’ s ( her daughter standing at the cash register ) running this location and we open another .”
It seems only fitting that a store named Thymeless would carry the restored furniture and other items supplied by Rosie Tyree of Greenville .
Commandeering her living room and kitchen , Tyree creates a line of home décor and vintage furniture for sale at Thymeless . She says she is drawn to old things .
“ I love old , vintage antiques . It ’ s so much fun to see what people used to use and how you can still use it in just a different way ,” she says .
The building that now houses Thymeless has itself been used in a lot of different ways .
Among other things , the narrow but long brick building has been a church , a dry goods store and a gym , said Janet Nichols , a lifelong resident of Royse City . The building also sat vacant and neglected for a number of years , she adds .
In fact , downtown Royse City had numerous vacant storefronts during the economic slump of the 1980s , she recalls . Eventually , however , growth took hold in Royse City , which sparked a revival of the central business district , especially over the past 10 years .
“ You can not find a building down here any more ,” she says .
Royse City ’ s vibrant downtown added a spiffy pocket park in 2018 called Cookston Court , which will host the city ’ s community Christmas tree .
Despite the spectacular growth in and around Royse City , the downtown has managed to keep it traditional character .
“ We ’ re still pretty quaint I feel like . Even though we ’ re growing and we ’ ve become pretty large , our downtown area tries to hold onto that charm of being a quaint little town … inviting to all the citizens and everyone else ,” says Royse City Main Street Director Paula Morris .
“ This is kind of the heart beat of Royse City ,” adds Nichols .
Call it Thymeless appeal .
