Holiday LIFE D WORDS KENT MILLER
Thanksgiving vs . Christmas :
The Battle for Holiday Supremacy
All the election hullabaloo may be in the history books and we know who ’ s the top dog in politics for the next four years but that doesn ’ t mean there ’ s no big issues left to debate .
The holiday season brings two heavyweight contenders to the table every year at this time : Thanksgiving and Christmas . It ’ s like the Super Bowl of holidays and this intrepid reporter has but one mission – to settle the matter once and for all . Or at least to stir the gravy .
And after scores of clandestine – even Deep Throat-esque – off-the-record anonymous interviews with the political , civic social and community influencers throughout Hunt County , maybe we can finally reach a consensus on which is the better holiday – Thanksgiving or Christmas .
First , we have Thanksgiving . The holiday that ’ s all about food . No presents , no frantic shopping , just you , your family and an enormous bird staring at you like , “ You better get this right .” Thanksgiving is the friendliest of holidays – it ’ s like the casual dinner party where all you have to do is show up with stretchy pants and a hearty appetite . If there ’ s any stress , it ’ s limited to one question : Did we make enough stuffing ? Spoiler : there is never enough stuffing .
Christmas , on the other hand , is the overachiever . It ’ s got twinkling lights , presents , holiday carols and a whole entourage
