Library No. 2( The Carnegie Library) opened on February 15, 1904 and remained open approximately 50 years in that location. The first librarian or library director of the Carnegie Library was Margaret Quigley.
The library building had structural problems and a headline appeared in the Greenville Banner dated Oct. 18, 1953“ To be Ready, March 1st( 1954) Modern Library under Construction Here to Replace Condemned Building.”
On May 29, 1954 the Greenville Public Carnegie Library closed. The City of Greenville sold the property the library occupied for $ 10,000 to the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. They razed the library building and started construction on their own building soon thereafter.
