The History of the

W. Walworth Harrison Library

The library movement in Greenville started around 1900 with women’ s clubs, primarily the Women’ s Review Club.

Library No. 1: The Women’ s Review Club started the first Greenville Public Library around that time in a corner of what was the Lasater Furniture Store located at the Southwest Corner of Lee and Wesley streets. It was so popular that it later moved to a building at the northwest corner of Stonewall and Crockett streets.
