Lurleen В . Wallace Community College offers opportunities for learning and growth by providing academic and technical instruction , workforce development , adult and continuing education and cultural enrichment .
HIGHER LEARNING : Lurleen B . Wallace Community College ( LBWCC ) continues its 54-year tradition of providing students the best option for academic transfer , career technical training in several fields , adult education for GED preparation , workforce development , training for existing business and industry , and continuing education .
LBWCC is one of 24 member colleges within the Alabama Community College System , a leading resource for providing higher education and economic development in the state .
Established in 1965 , the College enrolled the first class of students in Covington County in the City of Opp , and opened the doors of the Andalusia Campus four years later . In 1993 , the Greenville Campus welcomed students for the first time , and in 2006 , LBWCC opened a center in Luverne .
LBWCC ’ s Greenville Campus , located at 750 Greenville By-Pass , offers academic courses for students interested in pursuing a two-year Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree . Credits earned in LBW ’ s academic classes transfer to all public and most private four-year institutions . By starting locally , students earn the same college credits offered at universities while saving at least half the cost of tuition and fees for the first two years toward a bachelor ’ s degree .
Local licensed practical nurses wishing to continue their education toward a registered nursing licensure can enroll at LBWCC in Greenville ’ s nursing mobility program and earn an Associate Degree in Nursing .
Adult learners who did not receive a high school diploma and wish to pursue a GED ( General Education Diploma ) have the opportunity in Greenville and other LBWCC locations with free preparation classes .
LBW ’ s workforce development division works closely with area businesses and economic development initiatives for any needed training to ensure a strong business environment for the Butler County area .
Also offered at LBWCC , including the Greenville Campus , are continuing education courses for all ages that include a comprehensive array of short-term , non-credit , special interest , online , and healthcare classes .
In addition to LBWCC ’ s academic transfer courses , several technical training programs are offered in Opp , Luverne , and Andalusia , and include air conditioning and refrigeration , automotive mechanics , child development , computer science , cosmetology , diagnostic medical sonography , diesel and heavy equipment mechanics , emergency medical services , esthetics technology , forest technology , industrial electronics , medical office administration , nail technology , nursing , surgical technology and welding .
