The Greenville YMCA , conveniently located near Interstate 65 , offers a variety of opportunities for children , families , and seniors . From low-impact exercise , stretching , aerobics and yoga , to a complete exercise gym with weightlifting and cardio equipment , the opportunities to improve your health and fitness abound .
During the summer months the YMCA ’ s 150,000-gallon pool , featuring a graduated entry with splash area and water slide , is a great place to jump in to swim laps or bring the family for some fun in the sun . The YMCA offers a variety of programs for youth led by dedicated staff members and volunteers who have a passion for youth . Youth sports programs include soccer , football , and basketball . All programs include instruction in the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport as well as good sportsmanship and conduct for each individual .
For avid tennis lovers , the City of Greenville has six courts adjacent to the YMCA , open for public play , providing a unique opportunity for ages and skill levels to play tennis .
The Greenville Area Community Tennis Association ( GACTA ) is an active non-profit corporation for exclusively charitable and educational purposes to promote the development of tennis as a means of healthful recreation and physical fitness for all individuals in the Greenville , Alabama area . GACTA sponsors clinics and group lessons for youth as well as local area tournaments for youth and adults .
If you ’ re relishing a brand new game for you and your kids , pickle ball is a game that is growing in leaps and bounds as an activity that you and your whole family can enjoy playing together on the courts located on the campus of the YMCA .
Baseball and softball take center stage during the summer months and the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department sponsors boys and girls leagues through Dixie Youth Baseball and Dixie Softball Inc .
The GPRD maintains 12 baseball and softball fields at four different sites .
The Greenville Sportsplex located on Highway 10 West has hosted numerous youth state tournaments over the last two decades including the Dixie Youth Majors in 2010 , the Dixie Belles and Debs in 2016 and the Dixie Ozone in 2018 . The complex is scheduled to host the Dixie Youth AAA State Tournament in July of 2021 . Each of these tournaments brings visitors from across the state to the Camellia City and provides an economic boost for the community .
Basketball is another program sponsored by the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department . Games are played at Dunbar Community Center on School Highlands Road . The facility recently went through an upgrade with a state-of-the-art multi-purpose court put down in the summer of 2019 that can handle basketball and volleyball for area youngsters .
Both Dunbar and Beeland Community Center on Commerce Street are available as rental facilities for various events .
