Sally grew up in Maryland and
is the owner of Destination BVI, a
successful boat and yacht chartering company based in the British
Virgin Islands. She returned to Annapolis after several years in the
Caribbean so her children could
attend school Stateside. She continues to divide her time between the
two boating meccas. Sally graduated from Salisbury with a degree in
design and worked at a prestigious
firm in Rockville before her move to
the islands.
The rising trend in consigning,
restyling and DIY decorating reflects an objective common across
the country: to have a unique, personalized home that showcases contemporary trends, good taste and
quality wares, all sourced and refurbished on a budget, despite age
or means. “Interior Design doesn’t
have to mean ‘new’ anymore. And it
doesn’t have to mean a big price tag,”
says Sally Hammett. “For anyone
who has a list of projects they have
been meaning to complete but feel
overwhelmed by; for people who
don’t have a knack for design; or
for people who don’t have time for
furniture shopping, a business like
ours is a vital resource”.
Companies like Hammett &
Clagett recognize that all design
projects, no matter how large or
small, are very personal for clients.
“We know our customers have individual and collective tastes, family obligations, budgets and more
to consider. It is our job to identify
what they most want and to find
a way to make that happen”, says
Hoyle. “These days, people want
to stand out as individuals. They
want their homes to be a unique reflection of their personality, travels,
family and values. Our expertise
lies in creating design layouts and
in sourcing items that best reflect
those aspirations”.

When she came back to the
area, she and her husband, a building contractor, bought a house in
Crownsville. Defined by a large
window cut into the shape of a sun,
depicted with Mayan flourish on her
main floor, family room wall, the
home was perfect fodder for Sally’s
interior design skills. The property
includes a large barn, which the
family reinvented as a workshop
and which currently houses Hammett & Clagett’s extensive collection of repurposed furniture and a
growing inventory of retail household accessories.
