Tata Steel and MCB reduce CO 2 emissions of steel transport

MCB in Valkenswaard and Tata Steel Nederland have entered into an agreement to replace the transport of steel products to Valkenswaard by truck on diesel with biodiesel. Since this involves many deliveries and thus many kilometers, both from its location in IJmuiden and from Tata Steel Tubes in Maastricht, the steel transport is significantly made more sustainable. Converted to
CO 2 emission reduction, this represents a reduction of 186 tons of CO 2 emissions annually. This is a 90 % reduction of the original CO 2 emissions from the transport.
“ With our growing Zeremis ® solutions, we are on the way to a CO 2
-neutral, circular world together with customers. We are pleased that MCB, a longstanding partner of ours, is opting for reduced-CO 2 steel and low-CO 2 transport,” stated Mirenka Fortuin, director of sales and marketing engineering at Tata Steel Nederland.
Tata Steel provides MCB with steel coils and tubes, which MCB further distributes to various customers for a multitude of applications.“ We are very pleased with this next step, which seamlessly aligns with our sustainability ambitions. In addition to our CO 2
-reduced products and Wood4Wood, we are now also achieving CO 2 reduction in our transports,” said Erik Spikmans, sales director of MCB.
The reduction of CO 2 emissions in the transport chains between Tata Steel Nederland and participating customers is laid down in a Zeremis Delivered [ 1 ] agreement. The steel customers receive independently verified
CO 2 reduction statements. This major step towards the sustainability of mutual transport comes on top of the Memorandum of Understanding that MCB and Tata Steel Nederland previously agreed upon for the delivery of CO 2
- reduced steel and tubes.

CO 2 reduction statements. This method is widely used in the transport sector because it enables both route efficiency and
CO 2 savings that are specifically allocated to a customer.
