Mini Festival for Young Preachers: June 30, 2014
One of the great
questions facing the
church in the next 10
years is how to inspire
the best and brightest
of the next generation
to consider if God
is calling them into
pastoral ministry.
Green Lake is committed
to engage in this challenge,
as we have done with
effectiveness through
God’s favour and anointing
of these grounds and the
conferences held here
since 1944. We regularly
hear stories from pastors
and missionaries in both
international fields and the
domestic marketplace of
how God called them to their specific field of ministry
during an experience at Green Lake. Recently, it was
exciting to talk with two young leaders who have become
senior pastors, and whose call was discerned and shaped
by their experience on our Quest youth ministry staff.
To expand how we engage this challenge, we are
excited to announce we are a partner with the Academy
of Preachers (AoP). The mission of the Academy of
Preachers is to “identify, network, support and inspire
young people in the call to gospel preaching.” The heart

of their model is facilitating
festivals of preaching which
provide a platform for 14-28
year olds, accompanied by a
mentor, to come and preach
in front of an audience
for 15 minutes. They then
receive a consultation from a
preaching expert, roundtable
discussion times with peers
and encouragement from
audience members. Founder
and President Dwight A.
Moody, says, “we welcome
all young preachers…we
celebrate the unity we have
in the call of God, the gospel
of Jesus Christ, and the
importance of the spoken
word in shaping both the
human community and
the Christian community.”
Green Lake was connected
to Dwight and the AoP by Dr. Lori Carrell, Distinguished
Professor of Communication at the University of
Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Lori led the preaching week for
all Center for Excellence in Congregational Leadership
(CECLSM) classes at Green Lake and serves on our Board
of Directors. Since 2010 she has also served as the
Director of Assessment and Research for AoP.
