Sustainable Energy Development Authority ( SEDA ) Malaysia prepared the Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap ( MyRER ). It aims to increase the country ’ s RE installed capacity to 31 per cent or 12.9GW in 2025 and 40 per cent or 18GW in 2035 while decarbonising the electricity sector by 60 per cent from 2005 baseline by 2035 .
The Roadmap outlines strategies to accelerate Malaysia ’ s RE deployment . It aims to balance environmental goals , affordability , economic benefits , and system security by mitigating variable RE ( VRE ) sources .
MyRER considers two scenarios ,
business-as-usual ( BAU ) and new capacity target ( NCT ), to determine Malaysia ’ s RE outlook in 2035 .
Under the BAU scenario , existing RE-related policies and programmes are implemented without expansion or new programmes . The implementation of approved , committed , and announced capacities under existing programmes , i . e . Feed-in Tariff ( FiT ), Large Scale Solar ( LSS ), and Net Energy Metering ( NEM ), will lead to 11.7GW of RE capacity in 2025 .
With minimal future RE growth , the share of renewables in installed capacity should reach 29 per cent in 2020 . It ’ ll reach 32 per cent by 2035 .

scenario aimed to increase RE capacity by 2035 and decarbonise Malaysia ’ s electricity sector . This scenario fits Malaysia ’ s capacity-building plan .
This scenario achieves the national target of 31 per cent RE share with 12.92GW of RE installed capacity by 2025 . The scenario prioritises RE for system stability .
