An Ode to Mother Earth
k
Mother earth. The source of all known life. The provider of breathe. The nurturer of nature. Our home. A gift.
My children may not see the forests I once explored. They may not swim in the oceans that house the life of a plethora of species. They may not smell the freshness of country air. The earth, our mother, is dying.
It is stricken by the disease of apathy and greed. Humans seem to value money over the land that gives us life. Clear cutting ancient forests, drilling for oil in the pristine arctic, building pipelines through sacred land and polluting sacred water. For what? Our “benefit”. Will we benefit when we can no longer breathe, when all our forests are replaced by factories? When will money save us?
Mother Earth is dying. She’s suffering beyond belief and all she’s done is give. She has provided us with food, water, oxygen and a home. And we leave her starving and thirsty.
Let our mother, our home live. Nurture her like she nurtures us. May we all wake up.
