Green Country is dedicated to continuing the tradition of rodeos By BYRON BEERS [email protected] From the outside looking in, one may think that the state of Oklahoma is dominated by football, basketball and wrestling. While there is some truth to that, there’s another dimension of events that occupies so many lifestyles in not only Oklahoma, but Green Country. It’s the lifestyle of equine/bull events. A great sense of pride, time and effort is portrayed throughout the county with numerous people dedicated to continuing the tradition of rodeos and other events in the state. Green Country has a beautiful setting to do so. With a large portion of rural areas and the percentage of citizens that are still making a profit in the farming profession, Green Country is a definite stop to get a cowboy fix and more. A number of different places in the Green Country area offer a variety of equine events, featuring local and/or professional bull riders in the scenic northeast Oklahoma region. Sycamore Springs Ranch An arena facility holds a great deal of the Bucking Bull competitions in the country, in addition to several of the major production sales by the bucking stock breeders. Sycamore Springs Ranch offers an added economy boost to Green Country with the revenue and business it brings in. But the ranch is not limited to just equine events. Many organizations – such as Beefmaster Association, Cunningham Ranch’s Production Sales and Tri-State Beefmaster – use the facilities for production sales. In fact, the sales facility is primarily directed toward exotic animals and has been recognized by the federal USDA as one of the safest and most state-of-the-art facilities for handling exotic animals. There is also lodging for the events in cabins, the Chuckwagon Cafe, a public gym and meeting rooms for use to the general public or professional organizations. Four times a year, the ranch holds exotic animal sales and offers estate hunting. For more information on lodging or events at Sycamore Springs Ranch, email [email protected] or call 918- 598-3313. Cher-O-Dair Shriner Rodeo The Shriners Rodeo Club, based in Missouri, partners with the Cher- O-Dair Rodeo Club annually to produce some of the most exhilarating rodeos in the state. Typically, the rodeos will take place in the early part of the summer season, normally at the end of June. The rodeo bolsters a star-studded lineup of professional bull riders from around the country, including local talent, too.
