Stilwell to offer various types of holiday venues

Warm thoughts and fond memories of home can bring comfort during the holidays .
Many people make plans to return to visit family or welcome relatives and visitors for Halloween , Thanksgiving , Christmas , and New Year ’ s celebrations . As COVID slowly makes its departure – it is hoped – gatherings and travel are again on the agenda in Adair County , such as parades and trick or treating .
It will be a grand Christmas with the second even bigger and better . “ It ’ s A Grand Christmas Giveaway ,” sponsored by the Stilwell Democrat Journal and Westville Reporter will be putting cash and prizes in the hands of participants with community partners and

Beginning Dec . 13 there will be a different event every evening in Fletcher Park – maybe a movie , caroling , or children ’ s activities . Last year there was a live nativity one evening with the 12 Days of Christmas .
“ I think our Christmas tree at Fletcher Park is a great addition to our Christmas season and this year we are also fortunate to have the KCS Christmas added to our holiday festivities ,” said Liz Brown , Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce volunteer .
The mayor has a lot to be thankful for as she looks out over improvements this year , from the downtown sidewalk project to all the parks and people helping Stilwell put its best foot forward .
“ The holidays are a favorite time for friends and family to get together and enjoy the fellowship , driving around town to look at holiday lights , and visiting Fletcher Park ’ s giant Christmas tree and the 12 Days of Christmas activities . Stilwell is blessed with so many wonderful citizens and volunteers , for which I , as mayor , am ever so thankful ,” said Stilwell Mayor Jean Ann Wright .
The Stilwell Chamber of Commerce sponsors a chili luncheon for the Stilwell Indians Football homecoming the day of homecoming .
“ On Halloween we have the Trunko-ween on Division Street along with a costume contest , prizes are sponsored by the FOP . We have the Christmas parade on Dec . 3 , at 6 p . m . this year . The KCS Holiday Express will be in Stilwell on Dec . 8 at 4 p . m .,” said Chamber of Commerce President Tracy Sims .
The Stilwell Kiwanis sponsors the 12 Days of Christmas , which gives different groups and organizations a chance to celebrate Christmas in their own unique way and include the public .
